The great British summer is gradually leaving us and this is the perfect time for some pre-winter garden maintenance. The leaves are turning yellow and if you’re free this coming weekend, you can get stuck in and clear the garden ready for winter.
Here are a few tips to ensure a successful project.
- Hire a skip – Google for a company that does waste clearance in Maidstone and book a suitably sized skip for that weekend. If the skip needs to be parked on the public road, you will need council permission and choose a skip hire firm that recycles all waste.
- Tools – You will need a few stiff brooms, a shovel, fork, rake and wheelbarrow, green waste can be put into a skip, although you should check when ordering. Most accept green waste, which is recycled into fertiliser and anything else you have as waste should be OK’d with the skip provider.
- Materials – Whatever you need should be on-site when you are ready to start work; if you are just cleaning up, you might not require any materials, other than lawn fertiliser and some mulch.
- Pruning – The Internet hosts a wealth of information about pruning, which should be done in autumn. If you would rather have an expert take a look, call up your local arborist, who would be happy to check the health of your trees while pruning back for winter.
Try to pick a sunny weekend and hopefully, the family can assist, which makes the job so much easier and why not take a before and after photo and post it on social media?
